The Pressure Behind Cary’s Bethel Housing Project

Habitat for Humanity and the Town of Cary  deny that HUD is pressuring the Town to integrate public housing within our neighborhoods.   But this does not add up.

We  summarized the HUD agenda here,  including links to DowntownCary’s research on HUD’s  “disparate impact”  polices which consider low density residential zoning,  discriminatory.

Forcing public housing down the throats of hard working suburban homeowners always meets resistance.  Habitat for Humanity’s polished corporate image provides HUD the needed cover

For years, Cary thought it could outsmart HUD, spreading HUD’s grant money around town and even using HUD funds to build a luxury inn and martini bar. Now, HUD says the jig is up.

Habitat and the Town cite a shortage of affordable housing as the reason to cram the Bethel Baptist Housing Project into an established  single family neighborhood.   Really?

Habitat for Humanity’s Massive Land Holdings

Wake County tax records show Habitat for Humanity holding over 200 properties.  Included are  these 56 townhouse lots, already developed, with parking, utilities, access roads,  and HOA in place.

So, tell us again the great urgency to force-fit a road and 23 high density public housing units into 2.5 acres, instead of building single family homes that match the composition of the neighborhood?
